Translation is not improvised; it is an art. It requires a perfect knowledge of one’s mother tongue and solid training in a combination of source languages, but also a mastery of one’s proposed translation fields. This is why I chose to continue my studies in one of the most reputed institutes in Belgium. Supported by professional experience based on total immersion, I have attained a professional standard in several sectors through the numerous opportunities presented by my training.
From 1993 to 1996, I pursued a bachelor’s degree in nursing, which made me more familiar with medical terminology.
From 1996 to 2000, the Institut Libre Marie Haps in Brussels trained me to translate in various fields such as technical translation, economics, literature, legal, medical and tourism, in addition to subtitling and journalistic translation.
In November 1999, I completed a translation internship at RTBF Liège (French-speaking Belgian television), where I translated a court-ordered record in preparation for the programme Faits Divers.
For the completion of my degree in 2000, I translated into French an excerpt from the book The Universe at Large, a collection of articles written by renowned astronomers. The first part of my thesis consisted of an introduction, in English, to black holes and dying stars. I finished my work with a glossary specific to terminology in this field of translation.
Once I obtained my degree, it was with great ambition and above all passion that I created VF Traductions. This got off to a flying start with a focus on a website translation dedicated to Italian culture and a wonderful project to translate a 30,000-word site to provide understanding of Alzheimer’s disease for patients and their loved ones. Then followed the transcription of medical inquiries in English, the translation of technical records of medical equipment (Group Getinge) and the revision of technical manuals in Italian translated from English.
In 2004, I was given the responsibility of translations in the field of automation and gas and safety reports on tunnels between France and Italy.
In January 2005, I swore an oath and became a sworn translator approved by the Court of First Instance of Liège. Private individuals approach me to legalize their official documents with the courts (marriage and death certificates, certificates of good conduct, diplomas, etc.).
Recently, I have also been translating for the public prosecutor’s department and police of Liège.From 2008 to 2011, I translated medical nomenclature and parliamentary questions for the European institutions. Since 2015, a client active in the field of online publications entrusted me with the translation of all practical handbooks for GPs, from English into French. For this purpose, I bought the tool Trados.
